While on-site, the assessor collects necessary data and supporting evidence. The homeowner should provide proof of insulation in the floors, walls, and roof during the inspection. If no evidence is available, the assessor will record "insulation unknown" in the EPC software. The software then makes assumptions based on the building's age and construction regarding insulation. The term 'assumed' is added next to this assumption. It doesn't confirm or deny the presence of insulation but signifies a software-based assumption.

Since April 2018, it's against the law to lease a property in the UK with an EPC rating lower than 'E' (unless a valid exemption is in place).
